Illustration Friday - Prepare

Prepare for BATTLE.
I've been studying Yoji Shinkawa's art style, particularly his work on the Metal Gear Solid series. Shinkawa uses so few brush strokes to portray a perfect composition or feeling in his artwork that it's difficult to replicate. The soldier I've drawn is more reminiscent of 50's and 60's commercial art, which is an appealing style to me still. Although, I'd still prefer to figure out how Shinkawa creates such a dream-like atmosphere in his artwork.

Illustration Friday - Grounded

CHEER UP GRUMPY KID, SHEESH
Instead of doing my usual color pencil technique of filling in every single speck of paper showing through, creating the appearance of paint, I went with a more lighting emphasized picture. In other words, being a lazy artist not wanting to spend that much time on it. Although using a limited amount of colors and a more transparent blending on brown paper does create a visually nice, dream-like atmosphere, so I might use this technique more often.
